Do you have a real plan for your music releases and promotion strategies, or are you just taking shots in the dark? If you are, you’re not alone, and this is a big reason why a lot of artists feel stuck in their careers. Regardless of talent, you have to be smart and have a real plan in place to succeed.
One way to evaluate how you’re currently doing things and make a more efficient plan is with a SWOT analysis. This is a business strategy to define your strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Take the time to think these through and write them out.
Strengths- What are you good at? For example; do you have good, unique style? Arrange more photoshoots. These are the things you want to play up in everything you do.
Weaknesses- Everything you need to improve. Maybe your songs are great, but your live performance needs work. List that here.
Opportunities- What connections do you have, collaborations you could be doing, or things you’ve been putting off?
Threats- Anything urgent you need to address like debt, losing followers, not having any recent releases.
First focus on opportunities and threats that are time sensitive. Then, think of ways to play up your strengths in your marketing and social media, and brainstorm what you need to do to address your weaknesses and schedule in time to do this every week with effective due dates. Re-evaluate this list regularly and update it.
